Walking Track

WALKING TRACK TO BE CONSTRUCTED!!!

Junction City School District proposes to strengthen collaboration with Union County, Arkansas
for the purpose of providing opportunities to increase physical activity targeting the students,
parents, staff and community at Junction City High School and over time reduce rates of
obesity.

The Junction City School District and Union County, Arkansas will partner to
construct a one-half mile walking track that is approximately six feet wide on the grounds of the
Junction City School District. Students, staff, and community at the Junction City High School
will utilize the walking track each morning before school and will have access to the walking
track during school hours. Additionally, the recreational field space inside the perimeter of the
track will be used as recreational space for band/flag line/majorette, track, physical education,
and physical activity before, during, and after school. Outdoor lighting will be installed to
provide a well-lit area in the evening and purchased by the district before the end of phase II. In
the evenings after school and at other times during holidays and summer months, when school is
not in session, the walking track and recreational field will be available for public use to meet the
needs of the community.

Special Programs Director, Rebekah West, submitted the grant.  She would like to recognize and thank the district health and wellness committee members for also serving on this grant committee as well as JCSD Board Member Billy Smith and JCSD Athletic Director David Carpenter. In addition, special thanks to Judge Mike Loftin, Jeff Orr, and Union County for partnering with our school on this grant.
